Exploring Eilat: Israel’s Desert Oasis

From Beaches to Botanical Gardens: Discover the Charm of Eilat

Eilat is a city that was established in 1951, following a plan promoted by former Prime Minister David Ben Gurion to colonize the Negev desert.

Consequently, the city does not have very old buildings and most of its structures house facilities to supply and/or entertain the thousands of tourists who arrive annually.

One favorable aspect of Eilat is its geographical position facing the gulf of the same name. That is, most tourists who frequent it are interested in relaxing on its wide beaches and strolling along its promenade.

However, it is relevant to point out that this locality in Israel is also surrounded by mountains up to 892 m.a.s.l. Therefore, those who prefer it, can go trekking on this rocky terrain.

Finally, those travelers who wish to visit the most recognized points of interest in Eilat, can enjoy:

  • The Coral Beach Nature Reserve – A 1200 meter long reef, located near the coast, where some unique species of fish and corals in the world live.
  • The Eilat Marine Park Observatory – Opened in 1974 and houses more than 800 species.
  • The Eilat Botanical Garden – A place close to the mountains, which surprises with its waterfalls.
